reflections
Why Am I Doing Reflections
I have chosen reflections because there is a lot of routes to take with it. We also experience reflections in everyday life even if we don't notice them. They are all shapes and sizes and can display anything you want. The freedom and link to nature appeals to me because big or small I see nature everyday. I can also interact with techniques in Photoshop. I can use this freedom to get the best of both worlds .
I will be focusing on nature for my project.

first shoot
This shoot demonstrates a sporadic and unclear start.
second shoot
This shoot has a goiod number of images, however still sporadic
Critical Analysis
This shoot is rather sporadic in theme and consistency. With theme and consistency I can improve so to do so I will focus on using water to create reflections as this is a clear theme to follow. I will focus on waterways Because I have been influenced by Naoyo Takeyama. Takeyama uses inner city waterways to conduct reflective photoshoots.
WWW: I got some more obvious reflections in unusual places. A have also worked with a variety of locations around the school.
EBI: I had more images. With more images I can increase my level. Also my shoot could be improved with a continuous theme throughout and that I stuck to my influences.

Naoyo Hatekyama
Hatekyama is a Japanese photographer who was born in Iwate prefecture,1958. He takes photos of Tokyo's inner city water ways and their reflections.
. He studied at the university of Tsukuba. completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Tsukuba in 1984, where he completed his postgraduate studies. Hatakeyama is interested in the heightened tension that exists today between human culture and nature.

critique of Naoyo Hatakeyama
This photo is taking in a very vertical shape. The water encapsulates the tall buildings very well.
More Examples
Third shoot
There is a clear focus on water, However there is a lack in quality.
critique
To take this photoshoot I waited till it showered and then the sun came out. I only used aperture in the third last photo apart for this I didn't use any techniques. However I did have influence Naoyo Takeyama who takes reflective photo's of inner city water ways.
My Next step is to incorporate techniques to make the reflections more impressive.
WWW: I think my photoshoot went well because I have been Influenced by Hatekama's use of water in his reflections. This is Also I got lot off good photos which are off good quality.
EBI: I think my shoot could be better if some of the reflections were clearer. Like my last image its hard to tell what the reflection is of.

Refining
For this I will pick out 1 examples from shoot 1 and edit them. The images should be refined to my plans.
For the g fuel tub I brightened the tub so the lighting is more balanced across the tub. Then brightened the outside of the tub.
Daniel Kukla
Daniel Kukla spent the march of 2012 exploring Joshua Tree National Park. He ventured the border of the Mojave desert and The low Sonoran Desert meet. He wanted to capture a juxtaposed Eco system between the two. He hiked through the national park setting up a mirror in an easel. He captured different places and times of day creating contrast.
Daniel Kukla: Examples
Photoshoot 5: experimentation
A clear Experimentation between two arrtists and their concepts.
shoot 6: halfterm
A good use of location, and its elements.
shoot 7
Much clearer reflections, however an increase of photos could be better.
photoshoot
Good further testing, complemeting of archetecture and nature.
Interim Review
In my project I have a range of strengths and weaknesses. One of them is that I have learnt to effectively identify how a reflection is created on the waters surface. I have also used multiple locations while photographing reflections. This a good skill to improve my work and use elements of the locations in the photos. These elements include low light photography/ balancing the amount of light. Also I can work with the different landscapes like cities and with natural landscapes. I have also managed to work with different levels of murky water. This is a good skill to use. I have also developed an understanding of experimenting with two artists work by using both Naoyo Hatekyama's and Daniel kukla's reflections. Kukla uses small mirrors and places them in different locations capturing reflections and Hatekyama captures inner city's waterways and there reflections.
Another strength is that I have captured at different times of the day getting a contrast in definition of the reflections captured. This demonstrates a skill of adapting the lightning to the time of day and the desired reflection. Adapting to this gives me the freedom to create different style images.
My weaknesses vary from editing to actually taking the photo. I Have only edited twice during this project this is because my Photoshop skill set is not very big. I mainly only know how to change the contrast, brightness and saturation.

Ideas for final piece
David Gutierrez
David Gutierrez is a London based photographer. He takes photos of landmarks reflecting in water. On his website he talks about him being a specialist in architectural photography. He captures the urbanscape creating modern photography. He focuses on recreating the structures on the second medium. He does this because he wants to capture they're impact on the modern world. His passion started in 2001 when using an analogue camera to capture the city.
The image Im using to make my final piece
Explanation
For this final piece I travelled into London over half term. I took this photo in clear sky conditions and about 5 degrees out.
Big Ben didn't reflect very well from most places. However I came across this spot at the south bank side of the river. The common thing to do is to just get Big Ben and its Reflection. However I felt like I needed to make the image more powerful so I edited it. So I did an effect on the image to give it this bright glowing effect which brought elements to the photo. The photo I took is of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

Mock
This is where I will put all the work I created in the 5 hour mock exam. I will be creating photoshop work as my final piece.
Photoshop/Manipulation
I used lens correction to make a curved box to isolate the main element of the photograph.
then I distorted the box. I like this distortion as it reminds me off an old 70s tv screen. Then to finish it off I made the inside black and white, and gave it a strong grainy texture by using filter gallery.
The final Piece
Evaluation
For the final piece I used the picture of Big Ben, With its unique photoshop design I added a unedited picture of St James's Park.
These too images contrast eachother, The Big Ben Image is very distorted, taken at night, has mainly buildings in the shot
However the photo of St James's park uses natural lighting, has mainly trees and natural elements in shot and is not distorted or edited.
On the other hand they were both taken in London, both use wateer to reflect buildings.
I worked well in using Different locations and the aspects of those locations. However I think my final piece could be better if I used a DSLR to take my images, if I used a DSLR I wouldve been able to get a more crisp and sharp image.
My studied path was reflections, my start was very sporadic until I started studying Naoyo Hatekyama.
I studied Naoyo Hatekyama and his work on inner city reflections. I think my work really "reflects" his work well. Naoyo Hatekyama is based in japan and reflects large buildings in water.
